Best Gangster Movies of All Time

The movie industry is overflowing with different movie genres throughout the world, but among these various categories, the most remembered one is the one with a gangster theme. When it comes to gangster type of film, what people would instantly remember are the Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, and many more. Who would forget the combination of actions, acting skills, and character portrayals all packed in a gangster film. The viewers would really enjoy every event and twist of the story which is mostly based on true stories and real incidents. To help you have a brief background, here is a list of the best gangster films and a short description of the film.

Goodfellas (1990) Under the direction of Martin Scorsese, the stars who casted this film are Robert DeNiro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesce. This is a film about the life in the mafia, remembered by viewers for its exciting storylines and the quality performances of the whole cast. Truly, it is a film known as the top gangster movies.

Godfather Trilogy (1972, 1974, 1990) Probably the most popular gangster movies of all time. They combined the acting talents of such icons as Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, James Caan and a host of other talent actors. The movies included a memorable storyline, outstanding acting, drama, thrills, and every other emotion it could render up. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola the movies garnered 9 Oscars. Without a doubt, these are one of the all time best gangster movies.

Scarface (1983) A movie directed by Brian DePalma and performed by Al Pacino, Scarface is a combination of real life dramas and make-believe creations. The story and the climax of the movie made the viewers very thrilled and hooked with the characters until the inevitable ending. With Michelle Pfeiffer and other casts, this is really one of the best gangster movies throughout the movie industry.

Pulp Fiction (1994) A deep, dark gangster movie not for the faint of heart, but an outstanding film directed by Quentin Tarantino. Starring such icons as John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson, this gangster movie kept us thinking. Excellent acting, intriguing storyline, unforgettable characters, makes this movie a two thumbs up for one of the top 10 gangster movies ever made.

Donnie Brasco (1997) This film is also one of the top movies under the category of gangster because of the superb performances and one of a kind acting talents of Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. Together with the rest of the supporting casts and the incomparable direction skills of Mike Newell, the story lines based on a true story contributed to the thrilling factors and excitement of the film.

Casino (1995) The film is about a crime syndicate operating a casino. The storyline is really great as it was based on a true story. The audience was actually hooked with the reality of the events. Under the direction of Martin Scorsese, the film was performed by top actors Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesce and Sharon Stone. This film is really deserving of its spot on the top 10 gangster movies.

Though there are many more that are on this list, these are just a few that have been extremely memorable. The genre of good gangster movies reaches way back to 1912 and they have just become better with time. They draw us in and keep us under their spell. We will remember many of them for their fantastic actors, intriguing story lines and twists and turns. We will also look forward to many more of them in the future as they are not going away any time soon.
